Literacy Program
Decoding
Students will learn their phonetic sounds and/or missing phonetic sounds. We will focus on generalization and application of decoding skills into scientific based reading approaches.
Reading
Students will use their decoding skills and apply it to their reading level. They will be challenged in a variety of texts including fiction, non-fiction, advertisements, scripts, etc.
Story Writing
Students will work on sentence, paragraph, and essay structure. They will explore the use of adjectives, connecting words and discovering their "authors voice".
Real World Application
Students will use their decoding and writing skills in a variety of mediums. They will write menus, advertisements, film scripts, grocery lists, and commercials, etc.
Vocabulary
Students will work developing their vocabulary to use both orally and in written contexts. We work on sight words, recurring words as well as defining new words.
Comprehension
Students will develop strong comprehension skills for a text. They will learn to analyze, question, infer, and respond to a text in a meaningful, meta-cognitive way.
